If your school is anything like the ones where I work Adobe products are exclusively provided and classes are typically taught as Adobe software training courses - feeds a cycle unfortunately. If your career goals will require you to use Adobe products in the workforce then you have no choice but to train with those products and pay Adobe. The cost compared with the old student discount price is actually a little less for a year's subscription but when that year is over you either keep paying or lose access. Adobe does still off faculty and student discounts but only for the subscription products. I'm a college professor and teach Art/graphics/photo. I guess now-a-days you have to be a millionaire in order to get an education. Thanks for clearing that up, at least I don't have to waste any more time searching.
